PROD (Promoting Responsible Ownership of Dogs) is a small all-volunteer, non-profit organization, serving communities throughout the Columbia River Gorge region. Our programs, which have been in operation since 1996, are made possible solely through the support of local donors and foundation grants.
What We Do
Prod volunteers work with local residents to:
Reduce the number of unwanted puppies and kittens by offering financial assistance to spay or neuter their pet. |
Educate children on dog bite prevention, teach responsible pet ownership, and help adults to improve the relationship with their canine companions. |
Transport Hood River County stray dogs to a local shelter for adoption. |
Provide financial assistance for veterinary care to a Good Samaritan who has found an injured stray dog or cat.
Results
Our efforts have resulted in the alteration of more than 4,800 animals, the adoption of many hundreds of stray and owner- released animals, and the education of countless children and adults.
PROD Dogs
The pictures of the dogs scattered throughout our Website are some of the many canines that went through PROD’s foster care program from 1996 to 2004, and were subsequently adopted.
The images you see are merely representative of the millions of homeless canines throughout our country who have either strayed from their property, been removed from harmful situations, or have been given up to a shelter by families who could no longer keep them.
We ask each of you to do your part in reducing the need for alternative placements. At a minimum, please spay/neuter your pet companions, keep them on your property, and provide them with the structure and leadership they need to become a valued member of your family.
Thank you.
