Act quickly. Some shelters may only keep your dog for 3 days!
If your pet is missing please be sure to carefully check around your home. If the animal is frightened or injured he or she could be hiding somewhere on your property.
Call the Animal Control Officers in the various counties where your dog may have been lost or possibly found. In our area we would suggest you call Animal Control in all four contiguous counties. It's not uncommon for dogs to be transported over the river.
Check with all Veterinarian offices in the area, and post a photograph with them.

For The Dalles area, please contact Home At Last Humane Society, at 541-296-5189 or check www.homeatlasths.org and the Humane Society of Southwest Washington 360-693-4746. We suggest you drive to a facility and check for yourself. Many shelters are understaffed and overwhelmed with animals. Leave a poster with all pertinent information for the shelter staff.
Post information on bulletin boards around town but do not include all identifying traits so you can be sure it's your pet if someone calls.
List on the Internet (www.gorgelink.org/classifieds.html or gorgeads.com).
Place an ad in local newspapers:

Be sure to check all Found listings in the newspapers and on the Internet.
Call local radio station KIHR 541-386-1511 to have announced.
Check with delivery and service people in the area.
If you know where your pet was last seen, leave a personal item with your scent on it and something to eat, and check that spot regularly.
